Former Texas congressman Will Hurd has suspended his Republican presidential bid and is endorsing Nikki Haley for the GOP nomination. Hurd, who has been critical of Donald Trump, said that it is important to consolidate the party around one person to defeat both Trump and President Biden. Hurd believes that Haley has a different vision for the country and a strong grasp on foreign policy. Hurd’s campaign failed to gain traction as a pragmatic moderate and he did not qualify for the first two GOP debates. Hurd served three terms in the House and was the chamber’s only Black Republican during his final two years in office. He decided not to seek reelection in 2020 and has since been focusing on opportunities outside of Congress.
