The San Francisco headquarters of the company formerly known as Twitter has removed a brightly flashing “X” sign just days after its installation. The San Francisco Department of Building Inspection received 24 complaints about the unpermitted structure, citing concerns about safety and illumination.
The Elon Musk-owned company, now rebranded as X, had already removed the Twitter sign and iconic blue bird logo from the building last week. However, the removal work was paused temporarily due to a lack of necessary permits. As a result, the “er” at the end of “Twitter” remained on the building for a short period of time.
The city of San Francisco has opened a complaint and launched an investigation into the giant “X” sign that was installed on top of the downtown building as part of Musk’s rebranding efforts for the social media platform.
The chaotic rebranding of Twitter’s building signage mirrors the disorganized transition of the Twitter platform into X. While the X logo has replaced Twitter in many parts of the site and app, remnants of Twitter still remain.
Representatives for X have not yet responded to a request for comment.
